CAVY ON THE CATWALK

Michelle Paker with her award-winning Jutta the guinea pig

Once again the Northern Beaches has proved it offers idyllic lifestyles for the rich and famous. The latest model to grace Sydney's catwalks resides in this hillside suburb.

Jutta the guinea pig was recently voted "best in show" at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

But unlike your average supermodel, Jutta has a fuller figure. She eats like a pig - well, a guinea pig - and her owner, Michelle Parker, says she can be referred to as a brick with round edges.

"She eats a bit", Michelle says

"She likes her food. She's got to be nice and fat, with shape [to win the Easter Show]. She can't be skinny and bony".

At three years of age and already classed as adult, Jutta has a promising career ahead of her as it was the first time she had competed in such an event.

GUINEA PIGS can enjoy a day out at Davidson tomorrow at the Northsiders Cavy Show where enthusiests are encouraged to bring along their pets for judging.

Club member Michelle Parker owns 15 guinea pigs and encourages other owners to bring their pets for judging from 11am - 11:30am.

The judge entry fee is $1 per guinea pig, she said.

"They are judged on how well they have been looked after, for example for clean coats and a friendly personality," Ms Parker said.

Guinea pigs, or cavies as they are officially known come in more than 40 different varieties and colours.

Ms Parker said it was not certain where the name guinea pig originated.

"One view is that they came from New Guinea, another is that they have a little squeal like a pig and used to cost one guinea to buy".

Club members will have their cavies on show, with official judging from 10:30am to 2pm.

The Northsiders Cavy Club Show is at the Davidson Scout Hall, up a bush track from Ashworth Ave, Davidson.
